Brutal Bowl, 2024

This bowl was made as part of my Digital Carving workshop at Penland School of Crafts in the summer of 2024. The workshop was focussed on the use of the CNC router as a carving tool and introduced the participants to the photogrammetry process. This bowl was created with photogrammetry of a building on the Penland Campus. The resultant texture was flowed onto a surface in Rhino and prepped for cutting using RhinoCAM. It is made from soft maple, milk paint, and beeswax. This experiment is pushing my interest in using photogrammetry to scan brutalist buildings in the San Diego area for future work.
